Understanding Notifications

What Are Notifications?

Notifications alert you to:

  • 👥 Team Activities: Invitations, member changes, updates
  • 📊 Project Updates: New projects, assignments, changes
  • 🏢 Organization Events: Announcements, role changes, news
  • Profile Interactions: Stars, views, mentions
  • 💬 Messages: Direct mentions, replies, comments
  • 🔔 System Alerts: Important platform updates
  • 💰 Billing Events: Purchase confirmations, low credits
  • 🎯 Reminders: Deadlines, follow-ups, tasks

Notification Types

System Notifications

Important platform messages:

Managing Notifications

Notification Center

Access all your notifications:

Location:

  • Click the bell icon (🔔) in the header
  • Shows unread count badge
  • Dropdown shows recent notifications
  • Click "View All" for complete list

Notification Panel:

  • See all notifications in one place
  • Sorted by newest first
  • Filter by type
  • Mark as read/unread
  • Delete notifications
  • Clear all read

Reading Notifications

Notification Card Shows:

  • Icon indicating type
  • Title of notification
  • Brief message
  • Timestamp (e.g., "2 hours ago")
  • Read/unread indicator
  • Action buttons (if applicable)

Interaction:

  • Click to mark as read
  • Click title to view details
  • Hover for quick actions
  • Click action button (Accept, View, etc.)
  • Swipe to delete (mobile)

Organizing Notifications

Filter Options:

  • All notifications

  • By type (mentions, invites, etc.)

Sorting:

Notification Troubleshooting

Not Receiving Notifications?

Check These:

Email Notifications:

  • ✓ Email address is correct
  • ✓ Check spam/junk folder

  • ✓ Email provider not blocking

In-App Notifications:

  • ✓ Browser permissions granted
  • ✓ Notifications enabled in settings
  • ✓ Not in do-not-disturb mode
  • ✓ Browser updated

Desktop Notifications:

  • ✓ Browser permission granted
  • ✓ Operating system allows notifications
  • ✓ Not in quiet hours
  • ✓ FairArena tab open or allowed in background

Too Many Notifications?

Solutions:

Reduce Volume:

  • Switch to digest mode
  • Disable non-critical categories
  • Unfollow noisy organizations
  • Adjust frequency settings

Organize Better:

  • Use filters to focus
  • Check less frequently
  • Batch process notifications
  • Archive or clear regularly

Missing Specific Notifications?

Verify:

  • Setting for that type is enabled
  • You have permission to receive it
  • Email address is verified
  • Not in spam folder
  • No email delivery issues

Unsubscribe from Emails

Stop Marketing Emails

Don't want promotional emails?

Method 1: Unsubscribe Link

  • Click "Unsubscribe" at bottom of any marketing email
  • Confirm your choice
  • No more marketing emails

Method 2: Settings

  1. Go to Settings → Notifications
  2. Uncheck all Marketing options
  3. Save changes

Method 3: Unsubscribe Page

  • Visit /unsubscribe page
  • Enter email address
  • Select what to unsubscribe from
  • Confirm

You'll still receive important account and security emails even after unsubscribing from marketing.

Manage All Email Preferences

Fine-tune exactly what you receive:

  1. Settings → Notifications → Email
  2. Toggle each category on/off
  3. Choose frequency for each
  4. Save preferences

Common Questions

Can I mute notifications temporarily?

Yes! Enable "Do Not Disturb" mode in notification settings. Set for specific hours or until you turn it off.

Will I miss important alerts if I unsubscribe?

No. Critical security and account notifications always come through, even if you've opted out of everything else.

Can I get notifications for specific teams only?

Currently, notification settings are global. Team-specific settings are coming soon!

How do I stop getting so many emails?

Switch to daily digest or weekly summary mode instead of instant notifications.

Why are my notifications delayed?

Email delays can occur due to server load or your email provider. In-app notifications should be instant.

Can I export my notification history?

You can export your activity logs which include notification history. Go to Settings → Privacy → Export Data.
